Sustainability Series: Sustaining Rivers in Maine

October 12, 2022 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

In May 2022 native migratory alewives, a keystone species, made their return to China Lake for the first time since at least 1783. It was a spectacular success with 837,000 fish counted making their way into the lake to spawn. Over the previous six years, the China Lake Alewife Restoration Initiative had worked to remove obstructions and build fishways at six dams on Outlet Stream in Vassalboro, reconnecting China Lake to the Sebasticook River and the ocean.

Join us for the debut of a short film about the project made by Jerry Monkman, followed by a discussion with the filmmaker, Maine Rivers executive director Landis Hudson, and Alewife Restoration Initiative project manager Matt Streeter.
